More about this item: Col. Charles Fisher lived in Salisbury, North Carolina, where he maintained friendly relations with the Henderson family. He had served as a state senator and as president of the North Carolina Railroad since 1855. During the war, Fisher moved up the ranks to become the colonel of North Carolina’s Sixth Regiment. He met an early demise at the First Battle of Manassas on July 21, 1861. Fort Fisher was named in his honor in the fall of 1861.
