Item description: Entry, dated 6 November 1861, from diary of Newton Wallace, Company I, 27th Massachusetts Volunteers. Wallace was born in Holland, Massachusetts, and was twenty years old at the time of his enlistment. [Editorial Note: Wallace and his regiment ultimately spent several years in North Carolina, so we will include occasional entries from his diary over the next two years.]
[November] 6th Our Camp is named Camp Burnside in honor of our commanding General. we are camped on an elevated Plain with several other Regts Belonging to the same Division we are Resting up from our trip down here
