2 December 1861: “The great and pressing demand for the immediate supply of salt for the use of our citizens and soldiers…”

Item description: Ex officio governor Henry T. Clark transmitted these instructions for producing salt from seawater to the North Carolina Secession Convention for its consideration. The instructions came from Ebenezer Emmons, state geologist of North Carolina.
