Item description: Salt continued to be of great importance to the North Carolina Secession Convention as evidenced by this ordinance. In it, the convention exempts the owners and operators of “The Chatham Salt Mining and Manufacturing Company” from militia service, allows them to increase their capital stock to ten thousand dollars, and suspends the stock from taxation for six months.
