13 March 1862: Sketch showing the route to Newbern, pursued by the Burnside Expedition, March 13, & 14, 1862

Item description: This map is included with Major General J. G. Foster’s report to the Joint Committee on The Conduct of the War, a Congressional oversight committee set up in 1861. Although Foster’s report was published in 1866, the map indicates the position of Burnside’s Expedition on 13-14 March1862–traveling up the Neuse River, then marching south to Fort Macon.
