Item Description: Obituary of Col. Henry K. Burgwyn, 22 July 1863, published in a Raleigh newspaper.  The obituary uses quotes from letters by Stonewall Jackson and D. H. Hill to describe Burgwyn’s character and concludes with extracts from letters written by officers in his regiment to his parents after Burgwyn’s death.

    What a great posting that shows the incredible gallantry and bravery of this young man and the profound appreciation which was given to his memory. At the same time what a terrible shame at the loss of a young and productive person, repeated so many times throughout this terrible conflict.
