I think people who like Ms. Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampires series would like this title, too. It has a very similar tone and concept (plain-talking young southern woman with strange, supernatural abilites getts mixed up with murder, mayhem, and relationship complexities). However, if you are interested in this title, I would recommend waiting until after reading the first two books in the series before tackling this one. The plots aren’t so complicated that it is strictly necessary, but the character’s lives and relationships do build over time.

Also, I seem to remember thinking that the fictional town of Doraville either was a very thinly veiled stand-in for Asheville or was supposed to be located in that area of the mountains.
