Late-Night Hours To Return to Davis Library

Davis Library will once again open its doors to night owls. Beginning November 14, the library will stay open until 2 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, rather than closing at midnight.

The popular late-night service was eliminated at the beginning of the semester as a result of budget cuts. A gift from The Educational Foundation (also known as The Rams Club) will allow the Library to restore the hours for the remainder of 2011 and 2012.

“Students have told us again and again how important it is to have Davis open late at night,” said University Librarian Sarah Michalak. “”It’s wonderful that the Educational Foundation is able to help us meet such an urgent need.”

The Rams Club is an organization with a long history of giving to the University. Since 1938, The Rams Club has supported Carolina athletics by funding the athletics scholarship program at Carolina as well as important athletics facilities.

This is not the first time that the Educational Foundation has stepped in to keep campus libraries open during times of financial hardship. In 1990, another tight budget year, a similar gift from the Foundation allowed the Library to maintain hours for students.
