UNC students with an interest in documentary photography are invited to apply for one of four North Carolina Documentary Photography Awards. The $1,000 awards will enable winners to pursue an independent documentary photography project in North Carolina during summer 2014.
The North Carolina Collection Photographic Archives in the Wilson Special Collections Library is sponsoring the awards as a way to develop collections that portray events, topics, or places within the state.
The awards will benefit future researchers by improving the collection’s coverage of North Carolina, and will help acquaint students and faculty with the Library’s photographic archives.
Awards will be given to up to two undergraduate and two graduate students. Undergraduate applicants must be rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors during the summer of 2014. Graduate applicants must be enrolled at UNC during fall 2014.
Applicants are encouraged to consider UNC’s pan-campus theme for 2012 through 2014, “Water In Our World,” which calls for the University to mobilize around the common issue of water. Proposals on other topics will be given equal consideration.
Applications are due March 31, 2014, at 5 p.m. See the call for proposals for details.
