UNC Librarian Tim Shearer Receives SILS Distinguished Alumni Award

Tim Shearer, Director of Library and Information Technology at the UNC Library, is the recipient of the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award from the UNC School of Information and Library Science (SILS).

Tim, who received his MSLS from the school in 1997, accepted the award during the SILS spring commencement on May 8.

In presenting the award, Emily Jack,  SILS Alumni Association Vice President/President-Elect, said, “Tim’s innovative leadership has produced critical library tools and services. His colleagues value his insight, creativity, and sense of humor, as well as his commitment to mentoring students and new librarians.” Emily is the Digital Projects and Outreach Librarian in the UNC Library’s North Carolina Collection Gallery.

“I have been fortunate to engage with students who bring a stunning level of intelligence, creativity, and passion to their work. It is a pleasure few get to experience as part of their day-to-day professional life,” Tim said.
