Since 1919, UNC News Services (formerly the News Bureau) has managed the media presence of the University. The University Archives News Services Collection documents the history of this department from 1924-2012, containing correspondence, press clippings, photo negatives, and video features. A recent addition of more than 60,000 digital photos from 1997 to 2012 has found a permanent home in the Carolina Digital Repository.
Many of these photos were taken by longtime University Photographer, Dan Sears, for the University Gazette and other publications. These snapshots provide ample research material, as well as fascinating insight into the recent history of UNC. Thanks to the hard work of Wilson Library archival technical services, these photos are now freely available to the public through the CDR, ensuring their long-term preservation. These photographs can be accessed through the University Archives Finding Aid.
