How to Deposit a Child Work

What is a Child Work?

A child work is a work that is linked to an overarching “parent” work.  A child work has its own work page and associated descriptive information.  Therefore, the child work can be more easily located by search engines and discovered by others.  In the CDR, the child work can be discovered independently of the parent work, but a link back to the parent work is always available.

What is the Difference Between a Child Work and a File?  When Should I Deposit a Child Work?

Child works differ from files in that files share a work page and information with the main work. Files cannot be discovered independently from the main work and do not have their own independent descriptive information.
Although it is more work to deposit a child work than a file, we recommend depositing child works whenever possible so that they can be discovered on their own.
