How Do I Delay Publication of My Work?

If you’d like to delay publication of your work, you may choose to set an embargo when depositing. An embargo restricts access to a work for a set period of time. You might choose to set an embargo to comply with a publisher’s policy or to pursue further publication opportunities for your work.
After an embargo is set, only the depositor and designated viewers may see the work during the embargo period.  After the embargo expires, the work is made available to the public or to UNC-affiliated users. A typical embargo length in the CDR is one or two years.
Note that embargoes may not be available for some types of works due to departmental restrictions.

How can I embargo my work?

You can embargo your work during the deposit process.  While entering information about your work, select “Embargo” in the Visibility menu.  You will need to specify an embargo expiration date and specify what level of access the work should have.
