Depositing Student Work

To deposit papers and other publications created by students, we must have each student author agree to the terms of deposit.
To collect these agreements you can email them instructions and language below.  Students should read and respond to the email with one of the statements (I ACCEPT or I DO NOT ACCEPT the terms…) as well as filling in the fields at the end of the statement (Your Name, File Name, Content Title).  When you have received agreements from all student authors of a publication, forward the student’s agreement email to Rebekah Kati, Institutional Repository Librarian, at rkati@email.unc.edu and then proceed with the deposit.
Please copy and email the following text to students:

Please read below, respond by including the full text with the appropriate blanks filled in and the statement that you do or do not accept the terms of the agreement.
Non-Exclusive Deposit Agreement

By depositing content you agree that University Libraries can reproduce, translate, and make your submission publicly available through the Carolina Digital Repository (CDR). You, the author(s), grant UNC a non-exclusive right to reproduce your submission, translate the submission to any medium or format for preservation and public access, and/or publicly and globally distribute your submission in electronic format subject to any embargo instructions from the depositor. You also grant that UNC may keep more than one copy of this submission for purposes of security, back-up, and preservation. This agreement does not represent a transfer of copyright to UNC. You will retain the right to submit your work elsewhere, including for publication and to other repositories.
You affirm that the submission is your original work and does not, to the best of your knowledge infringe upon anyone’s copyright. If the depositor holds the copyright, the depositor retains copyright of materials deposited in the CDR. The CDR requires that the copyright holder allows the non-exclusive distribution and preservation of the work when depositing content.  If the submission contains material for which you do not hold copyright, you agree that you have obtained the unrestricted permission of the copyright owner to grant UNC the rights required by this agreement, and that such third-party owned material is clearly identified and acknowledged within the text or content of the submission. If the submission is based upon work sponsored or supported by an agency or organization other than UNC, you agree that you have fulfilled any right of review or other obligations required by such contract or agreement.
You affirm that your submission complies with all other laws, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and UNC policy.  If you are a student submitting your own work, to the extent the work is an educational record as defined in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), you consent to public disclosure of it  when you deposit in the CDR.  If you are a non-student who is submitting student work to the CDR, to the extent the work is an educational record as defined in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), you affirm that the student who created the work has consented to its disclosure.
UNC will not make any alteration, other than as allowed by this agreement, to your submission. For more information, see Policies & Guidelines.
