  1. Thanks Elizabeth for putting the Bodie Island Lighthouse voting link in this post. I was pleased to vote for this North Carolina landmark.
There is another great Hugh Morton photograph of the Bodie Island Lighthouse in his 2006 book, “Hugh Morton: North Carolina Photographer.” It’s on page 111.
If he had chosen to do so, Hugh Morton could have done a book on just his North Carolina lighthouse photography. Here’s just of few of his lighthouse shots that have appeared on the cover of “The State” magazine.
    Cape Fear Lighthouse – December 3, 1949
Cape Fear Lighthouse – March, 1973
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse – January, 1982
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse – May, 1984 (In addition to this great lighthouse shot, there is also a Highland Games piper on this same cover).
Oak Island Lighthouse – August, 1986

  2. Bodie Island Lighthouse has been approved for restoration. Work should begin in the fall of this year and be completed within a year. Hopefully, once renovations are done you will be able to climb the 214 stairs to the top once again.

  3. Correction to above: The work on Bodie Island Lighthouse will take 18 months to two years. Hopefully by summer of 2011 or 2012 visitors will be invited to climb to the top!
