Hotel Carolina’s Beacon in the Night

Check out this recently uploaded postcard depicting the Hotel Carolina in Raleigh at night.  The style of the card suggests that it was printed sometime between 1915 and 1930, and the spot light coming off the roof of the building adds a fitting touch to this thoroughly modern hotel.  Does anyone remember seeing the beacon?

  1. dont know about the beacon, but postcard retouchers in germany and elsewhere often added features such as flagpoles and (as in this image) cars….

  2. Thanks Lew for raising the point that postcard publishers often added (and sometimes removed!) various features to the cards. We have a couple of good examples of this sort of thing that I’ll try and post on the blog soon.
