An Election Smoker

The US Supreme Court recently overturned portions of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance laws, but I wonder if they ever looked into the legality of a bipartisan “smoker”?

  1. Maybe Scrabble and crossword enthusiasts know “chibouks.” I didn’t. From Merriam-Webster:

    Main Entry: chi·bouk
    Variant(s): or chi·bouque \chə-ˈbük, shə-\
Etymology: French chibouque, from Turkish çubuk
    Date: 1811
: a long-stemmed Turkish tobacco pipe with a clay bowl

Quite an image, a lawn full of chibouk smokers listening to political speeches….

  2. Of course it would have to be held in the middle of a parking lot, 100 feet from any public building… that might cut down a bit on the generosity of the donors.
