America and the Soviet Union

Richard Löwenthal offers a late twentieth-century overview of American and Soviet politics, the arms race, the perils and rewards of détente, and the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan. This episode of Soundings consists of excerpts from a lecture Löwenthal delivered at the National Humanities Center in 1980.

At the time of this recording, Löwenthal, a Fellow at the Center (1979-80), was emeritus professor of international relations at the Free University of (West) Berlin.

This edition of Soundings was conducted by Wayne J. Pond.
