Students and/or Athletes

In the late 1980s, sports announcer Woody Durham and free-lance journalist Scott Shuger discuss proposed reforms in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, including higher academic standards and less special treatment for student athletes, and more guidance from college administrators.

At the time of this interview, Durham was the play-by-play announcer for the Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Shuger wrote about college athletes and academics for Sport magazine and Newsday.

This edition of Soundings was conducted by Wayne J. Pond.
