African studies center faculty research awards

The African Studies Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill provides funds to faculty members who wish to conduct new research in Africa. Priority will be given to those who have not conducted research in Africa before and for those who are seeking top off funds for grants already received. The award amount is between $2,000 and $4,000. Application deadline: March 1, 2016.

Library Company of Philadelphia’s Program in African American History Dissertation Fellowship

The Library Company of Philadelphia offers an African American History Dissertation Fellowship. This fellowship is designed to increase the population of scholars from underrepresented areas and promotes research in the collections of the Library Company. Applicants should be in the later stages of their writing or research. The $25,000 stipend is shared equally between two award winners.  Application deadline: March 1, 2016.

National museum of African art internship

The National Museum of African Art offers a 10 week summer internship. Applicants should have backgrounds in art history, anthropology, museum studies, or a related discipline. This internship is open to undergraduates as well as graduate students who wish to explore a research topic or the museum profession. Application deadline: March 1, 2016.

Medgar and Myrlie Evers Research Scholars Program

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History provides a new program providing scholars with the funds and information to help complete a substantial research project. The $4,000 stipend will help cover travel, housing, and research expenses. The Evers Scholar Program encourages the work and research in history of civil and human rights. Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) Travel Grant

The Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) offers a travel grant to Ph.D. students, post-Docs, and junior faculty studying any aspect of the Middle East and Africa region. The funds provided by this grant may cover travel costs associated with traveling to the annual ASMEA conference.  Application deadline: March 25, 2016.

Joel Williamson Visiting Scholar Grant

The Southern Historical Collection at the Univeristy of North Carolina at Chapel Hill  is accepting applications for the Joel Williamson Visiting Scholar Grant. This grant pertains to research projects studying African Americans or race relations in the American South. The grant is a $1,200 award. Application deadline: March 31, 2016.
