Energy Policy and Social Values in America

Alasdair MacIntyre discusses the ethical and moral dimensions of energy policy in the United States and worldwide, warning of the the dire implications that the importation of energy resources has upon national politics and foreign policy. He discusses America’s automobile culture in terms of social and moral values, and concludes by outlining the social and political sacrifices facing the United States as the country seeks sustainable energy resources.

At the time of this interview, MacIntyre was professor of philosophy and political science at Boston University. He was a participant in the conference entitled “Ethics and Moral Education” held at the National Humanities Center in December 1979.
