In the second segment [14:00], Daniel Horowitz discusses his book about intellectual response to the emergence of mass consumer culture in the United States, The Morality of Spending.

Helen Horowitz and Daniel Horowitz were Fellows at the National Humanities Center (1984-85) and, at the time of this interview, professors of history at Scripps College.
