In separate episodes, Cleanth Brooks and Harold Cannon discuss their involvement in projects that occurred under the aegis of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The first segment is a discussion with Brooks about the Jefferson Lecture in the Humanities, entitled “Literature in a Technological Age,” that he delivered in 1985.
In the second segment [10:30], Cannon speaks of directing a then-innovative nationwide effort to microfilm “at-risk” books that were considered to be part of America’s cultural heritage.
At the time of this interview, Brooks, a Fellow at the National Humanities Center (1979-81), was emeritus professor of English at Yale University. Cannon was director of the NEH Office of Preservation.
