William J. Bennett addresses questions such as these: What is the quality of education, the status of teaching, and the level of parental involvement in education in America? Should Americans have an educational agenda, and what does the Department of Education have to do with it?

At the time of this interview, Bennett, a director of the National Humanities Center, was secretary of the Department of Education in the administration of President Ronald Reagan.
