Love Among the Ruins, Part 1 of 2

Love, marriage, sexuality, and gender–in the ancient Greek world, how are these concepts identifiable? In what ways are these notions in classical Greece related to issues such as pleasure, marriage, friendship, and sexual stereotypes? How have these concepts evolved, and what is their importance in our understanding of contemporary sexuality? David Halperin and John Winkler address these questions and more.

At the time of this interview, the speakers, both of whom were Fellows at the National Humanities Center (1985-86), were professors of classics, Halperin at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Winkler at Stanford University.

This edition of Soundings was conducted by Wayne J. Pond.
