What should secondary teachers know? That question formed the basis for a 1986 chancellor’s invitational conference at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A central goal of the conference was an exploration of the knowledge, values, and skills essential to successful instruction in American middle schools and high schools. Panelists in this interview are David Dill, Vinetta Jones, Warren Nord, and Mary Ann Weathers.
At the time of this interview, Dill was special assistant to the chancellor for planning at UNC-CH. Jones was coordinator of the Mathematics and Science Education Network in the Department of Education at UNC-CH. Nord was director of the Program in the Humanities and Human Values at UNC-CH. Weathers was assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in the Moore County (N.C.) Schools.
