James Epstein and Eugene Genovese discuss Karl Marx and Marxist philosophy in the twentieth century including the rise of socialism and communism.

At the time of this interview, Epstein, a Fellow at the National Humanities Center (1985-86), was professor of history at Vanderbilt University. Genovese, a Fellow at the National Humanities Center (1984-85, 1987-88), was professor of history at the University of Rochester.
