Women’s Literary Studies, Part 1 of 3

Barbara GitensteinDeborah Kaplan, Patricia Meyer Spacks, and Joan Hinde Stewart address questions of feminist literary criticism. What are its premises, and how does it differ from other forms of literary study? Is literature marked by gender?

At the time of this interview, Gitenstein was professor of English at the University of Central Missouri. Kaplan was professor of English at George Mason University. Spacks, a Fellow at the National Humanities Center (1982-83, 1988-89) and a trustee of the Center, was professor of English at Yale University. Stewart, a Fellow at the Center (1982-83) was professor French at North Carolina State University.
