Culture and Politics in Asia and the Far East

Asia and the Far East are parts of the world that are still little known to most Americans in the mid-1980s. Toward an understanding of two very different but important aspects of societies and cultures in Asia and the Far East, Soundings presents discussions with Donald Horowitz about ethnicity and politics in Asia and, at [14:00], with Zhao Jinglun about social and political reform in contemporary China.

At the time of these interviews, Horowitz, a Fellow at the National Humanities Center (1984-85), was professor of political science and law at Duke University. Zhao, also a Fellow at the Center (1984-85), was a free-lance journalist.

This edition of Soundings was conducted by Wayne J. Pond.
