Literature, Pleasure, and Power

Richard Levin talks about literary criticism, including his observations on the New Criticism and Deconstructionism in the mid-1980s. He also focuses on new perspectives on the work of William Shakespeare.

In the second segment [14:20], Robert Crunden discusses literary modernism, as illustrated especially in the work of Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot.

At the time of this interview, Levin, a Fellow at the National Humanities Center (1987-88), was professor of English at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Crunden was professor of history and American studies at the University of Texas at Austin.
