Nature and the Self

Eugene Goodheart speaks about his book Desire and Its Discontents, a cultural study of the self, ideology, and desire.

In the second segment [14:00], Carl Woodring discusses the research and writing that resulted in his book Nature into Art: Cultural Transformations in Nineteenth-Century Britain.

At the time of these interviews, Goodheart, a Fellow at the National Humanities Center (1987-88), was professor of English at Brandeis University.

Woodring, also a Fellow at the Center (1987-88), was professor of English at Columbia University.
