From Protest to Power

Steven Lawson, the author of Running for Freedom: Civil Rights and Black Politics in America since 1941, reviews the civil rights movement and the emergence of black politicians from World War II until the late 1980s.

At the time of this interview, Lawson, a Fellow at the National Humanities Center (1987-88), was professor of history at the University of South Florida.
