The Goddess and the Dreadful Practice

Paul Courtright speaks about his study of the Indian phenomenon of suttee, or self-immolation, entitled “The Goddess and the Dreadful Practice.”

At the time of this interview, Courtright, a Fellow at the National Humanities Center (1987-88), was professor of religion at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
