Read Harry McKown’s most recent “This Month in North Carolina History,” which covers the brief operation of America’s first forestry school.
A few years ago, several institutions in N.C. including the Forest History Society and the Biltmore Estate Archives, worked together to produce a portal to archival collections dealing with the beginnings of forestry in the South, especially at the Biltmore Forest School. The collections contain photographs, correspondence, transcripts of oral history interviews, and other items related to Carl Schenck and his forestry students.
